The Western Museum of Mining and Industry

Explore Colorado's rich and colorful mining past. Find out what's happening in mining today at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. The museum's 27-acre site includes two exhibit buildings, outdoor displays and a picnic area. This is a wonderful place to learn to pan for gold and to see how turn-of-the-century miners timbered, drilled, blasted, mucked and moved ore from the mine to the stamp mill, where ore was crushed and processed. 2008 Regional Event Highlights

July 28 – August 3        
2008 U.S. Senior Open
DATES: July 28 - August 3, 2008
 
ATTENDANCE: More than 150,000 spectators are expected to attend the U.S. Senior Open throughout the week.
FIELD: 156 Professionals and Amateurs (over the age of 50)
FORMAT: 72 Hole stroke play; field will be cut to low 60 and ties plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader following the completion of the second round.
LOCATION: The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. The Senior Open will be contested on the East Course designed by Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and will be the 6th USGA Championship staged at The Broadmoor. The first was the 1959 U.S. Amateur won by Jack Nicklaus. The last was the 1995 U.S. Women's Open, won by Annika Sorenstam.

2009 State Games of America
The 2009 State Games of America will be held July 30-August 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The State Games of America has previously been held in St. Louis, Missouri (1999, 2001), Hartford, Connecticut (2003) and Colorado Springs, Colorado (2005, 2007). The State Games concept was developed in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. In 2006, more than 500,000 athletes competed in one of 49 State Games nationwide. State Games feature various sports of the Olympic and Pan American Games as well as sports with regional popularity within each state.

Democratic National Convention, Denver, Colorado
