Explore the excitement of Colorado's rich mining heritage and watch it come alive at the Museum that Works!

The Western Museum of Mining and Industry offers daily tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., where visitors witness operable steam engines, including out 37-ton Corliss Steam Engine. Come learn about the rocks you eat, experiment with gold panning, play with hands-on exhibits, dress up like a miner, visit our burros, Oro and Nugget, and see how families lived in the 1890s. The museum offers over 27 acres to see how turn-of-the-century miners timbered, drilled, blasted, mucked, and hauled ore from the mine to the stamp mill, where ore was crushed and processed. Daily tours, changing exhibits, guest lecturers, family exploration days, special exhibits, and more! Research Library available with reservation. There is something for guests of all ages. The Western Museum of Mining and Industry is located at I-25, exit 156A, just east of the USAFA north gate. For more information, call 719-488-0880 or visit our website at www.wmmi.org.
