Climate:
Pikes Peak with snow

The Pikes Peak region has an average of 250 days of sunshine. The climate is mild with very low humidity. Typically January and February are the coldest months and July is the hottest. Snowstorms are followed by sunshine which means the snow melts immediately. We also have "chinook winds" (that means "snow eater" in Eskimo) in the winter and spring that can take our temperature up to 60 degrees instantly. The low humidity can leave your nose and sinuses feeling a bit dry. The weather can change quickly. Bring a jacket or sweater, even during the summer months. It is especially important to be prepared for cooler temperatures and to have plenty of water when you are hiking or traveling to higher elevations. Watch KKTV-Channel 11, KOAA-Channels 5 and 30, KRDO-Channel 13 for local weather forecasts.

Winter (Dec. 22 - March 20)
Average snowfall: 5 inches per month. Average high temperatures: 44-50 degrees

Spring (March 21 - June 21)
March can be the snowiest month with a 9.9 inch average, followed by April with 6.7 inches. Average high temperatures: March - 49 degrees, April - 60 degrees, May - 65 degrees, June - 70 degrees.

Summer (June 22 - September 23)
Warm mornings with afternoon rain showers. Average high temperatures: July - 85 degrees, August - 82 degrees, September - 70 degrees.

Fall (September 24 - December 21)
Warm days, cool and crisp evenings. Average snowfall 5.4 inches in November. Average high temperatures - 44-66 degrees.

Urban Wildlife:

Because we are surrounded by the foothills, Manitou Springs has deer, raccoons, squirrels, and other wildlife. As tempting as it may be, please look, but do not touch or feed these animals. Please dispose of your trash properly, too. When hiking, use an insect repellent. Make sure your pets have flea collars and keep them away from any dead rodents.
