PIKES PEAK COG RAILWAY

Pikes Peak Cog RailwayThe Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway (the world's highest cog railroad, located in Manitou Springs, Colorado, the highest Colorado railroad AND highest train in the United States) has taken passengers to the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak. 2008 Event Highlights

July 28 – August 3        
U.S. Senior Open
DATES: July 28 - August 3, 2008
 
ATTENDANCE: More than 150,000 spectators are expected to attend the U.S. Senior Open throughout the week.
 
FIELD: 156 Professionals and Amateurs (over the age of 50)
 
FORMAT: 72 Hole stroke play; field will be cut to low 60 and ties plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader following the completion of the second round.
 
LOCATION: The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. The Senior Open will be contested on the East Course designed by Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and will be the 6th USGA Championship staged at The Broadmoor. The first was the 1959 U.S. Amateur won by Jack Nicklaus. The last was the 1995 U.S. Women's Open, won by Annika Sorenstam.

August 7-10      
Inaugural State Games of the West   
The inaugural State Games of the West will be held July 24-27 in Colorado Springs, Colorado and will feature 31 sports. This event will be combined with Colorado's Rocky Mountain State Games and will serve as a qualifier for the 2009 State Games of America.

Visit Colorado and see the annual Rocky Mountain State Games. 
The 2008 Rocky Mountain State Games will be combined with the
2008 State Games of the West, a new regional State Games event, with competition taking place July 24-27 in Colorado Springs. The 2008 SGW will feature 8,000 athletes from 13 Western States competing in one or more of the 31 sports offered.

 

August 23-25    
Democratic National Convention, Denver, Colorado
This once in a lifetime event is sure to be a highlight for anyone visiting the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak region this fall.  Take an excursion from the political partying and come see Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak - America's Mountain, and over 50 area attractions that lure more than 6 million visitors to our area every year.  A Colorado vacation in Colorado Springs, visiting Canon City, Manitou Springs and Cripple Creek, will be like nothing ever before!
