FARMER’S MARKET CONTINUES TO GROW WITH NEW VENDORS IN 5th YEAR

Manitou Springs, Colorado (June 3, 2009) The Midweek Farmer's Market is gearing up for another exciting season in Soda Springs Park. As the market continues to grow each year, expect to see several new vendors as well as some old favorites. This year, the market will add D'Vine Wine selling tastings and bottles of their wine under the pavilion, Farm Crest Milk and locally brewed coffee from Polar Bear Brew. These new items were especially selected to compliment our new trend of urban farmers producing vegetables and live plants from our own backyards as well as vendors with unique clothing and locally produced original art.

New retailers will also be on the scene this summer. Mountain Oasis will sell clay jewelry, hair sticks and knitting accessories. Yobel Market will return with its line of handmade, fair trade items that benefit women and children from lesser developed countries. African Market baskets will be available for purchase and shoppers are encouraged to buy one and use it each week for the stylish, earth-friendly way to shop at a farmers market. Other new items include hand made soaps, fresh flowers and locally made candles.

The food court will also have new items. In addition to easy to carry hotdogs and hamburgers, there will be burritos, tamales and chilies. Great Harvest Bread and Colorado Bread Co. will be back selling their fresh baked breads.

The entertainment line-up has been changed to help promote Manitou Springs' own musicians. Tenderfoot Bluegrass, Creating a Newsence, and The Story's, just to name a few, will be providing listening pleasures during the market. On July 29th the annual pro/am Bake-Off competition will include a kids bake-off contest made possible by Retro Moto Toys. Closing night on August 26th will be the 4th Annual Hippy Dippy Chile Cook-Off competition…some hot contenders are already lining up to steal the traveling Chile Garcia trophy.

Kids will have new activities too! Coke will sponsor a kid’s corner booth at the market for the entire summer. Projects will vary each week. Kids visiting the market will have the chance to work on fun projects such as bird houses and box banjos.

Midweek Farmers Market Festival is presented by the Central Manitou Springs BID. The market opens on June 10 and runs through August 26 each week in Soda Springs Park. The park is located in downtown Manitou Springs, off US 24 West on Manitou Avenue. Market managers remind the public to leave pets at home.
