2009 Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-off Winners Announced
Manitou Springs, CO: The Sixteenth Annual Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-off was held in Soda Springs Park on Saturday, February 21, 2009. Thirteen amateur and five professional teams lined the pavilion to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in their respective categories, as well as the Showmanship and People’s Choice awards.
The Ritz Grill, of Colorado Springs, was voted best among the professionals, with Jack Quinn’s and Whole Foods Market behind for 2nd and 3rd places. Travis Waters took top honors in amateur division. Thom Herald was awarded 2nd place and there was a tie between Earline Crochet and Steve & Cindy Maniscalo for 3rd. This year, the People’s Choice Award was given to Whole Foods Market and Wendy Kirkpatrick and her team called “Colorado Gumbo” won the Showmanship Award.
The Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, the City of Manitou Springs, Blue Skies Inn, The Mason Jar Restaurant, Michael Mare with Edward Jones sponsored the Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-off.
