26th Mountain Music Festival comes to Manitou Springs
As it has every year since 1983, the Mountain Music Festival will return to Manitou Springs’ Soda Springs Park again this year, with the 2008 edition kicking off Friday evening, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. The Festival will continue Saturday and Sunday, day and night, with over a dozen nationally and internationally acclaimed performers and groups providing an extremely diverse offering of acoustic music.
From its inception more than a quarter of a century ago, the Mountain Music Festival has featured a wide range of professional performers from all kinds of folk and acoustic music – singer/songwriters, polished urban folksingers, bluegrass bands, traditional singers and instrumentalists, world music exponents and always a diverse and innovative group of dulcimer musicians.
A few of the confirmed performers include Dakota Ridge, Robert Force, Bing Futch, Bob Haworth, Jubilant Bridge, Judy Piazza, Jim Young and The Chilly Winds.
As always, the Festival is free and open to the public.
This year’s Festival has expanded into a pair of nearby music venue establishments.
Thursday, Aug, 21, will provide an opportunity to mingle informally, meet and enjoy many of the musicians at Kinfolks Mountain Outfitters, 950 Manitou Ave., from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Microbrewed beers, gourmet coffee and a selection of fine wines will be available as well, plus Kinfolks’ selection of outdoor clothing and accessories.
After the concert in the park finishes Saturday, the Festival will move into the Ancient Mariner Tavern at 962 Manitou Ave. The gathering at the Ancient Mariner will feature not just the tavern’s extensive menu, full bar and welcoming ambience, but also a chance to hear and request more music, jam with the musicians and keep the festive event going into the early hours. Instruments will be available.
A complete Mountain Music Festival schedule will be available soon.
