America’s western heritage, man’s ingenuity, and Colorado’s beauty is showcased for the Fourth of July celebration at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, Canon City, Colo., home of the world’s highest suspension bridge. Almost 80 years old, the Royal Gorge Bridge is still considered an engineering marvel according to today’s standards. Special music and entertainment is scheduled for a memorable Colorado three-day weekend, July 4-6.
The Greenway Nature Center from Pueblo, Colo., will introduce guests to America’s Birds of Prey with live demonstrations at the park. Face Painting by Denise Lallemand, Balloon Art by Rollo the Clown, and special music by the Geezers is on tap for the celebration. Several shows daily will feature the Tom Munch Historical and Music Show, providing fun-filled history of the area.
The Mountain Man Trading Post, the park’s newest addition, will feature The Royal Gorge 21 black powder gun salute to honor America’s pioneers, the Traveling Medicine Man Show, and cowboys on Longhorn Steers sauntering up and down the old time front street.
The park will have extended hours for the three-day event, July 4-6, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the park includes several attractions including the Royal Gorge Bridge, spanning a quarter-mile across the 1,000-foot walls of the Royal Gorge, the World’s Steepest Incline Railway, the World’s Longest Single-Span Aerial Tram, and the Western Wapiti Wildlife Park and Petting Zoo. The Royal Rush Skycoaster, the World’s Scariest Skycoaster and horseback riding with a half hour trail ride called “Ride the Rim” are extra pay features available at the park.
